Save Me

I don't even have words to describe Joan Wasser's musical style. The raspy voice of Wasser, best known for her albums released under Joan as Police Woman, manages to captivate, entrance, and hold the listener in some sort of emotional prison until, after around 4 minutes the track releases us. After hearing she dated Jeff Buckley, my theory that her music would have been just as ethereal in the post-punk wave of the late 1970s is solidified. Simultaneously powerful and innocuous, triumphant and vulnerable, Joan as Police Woman's 2006 Real Life and 2008's To Survive are must must must haves.
