Small town? The Nextdoor Neighbors are anything but.Hailing from Olympia, Washington this cute-as-punch duo are every indie label's dream. In the history of Casio keyboards, two girls have never been so badass. Self -defined "Electro-folkhoppers," Jessie's vocals capture the spirit of a raw Sandi Thom, or at times a younger, quirkier Leslie Feist, while Kathy (who I'm pretty sure I got to work with at Starbucks!) channels the quirky electro-genius of Stephin Merrit on hip-hop. Think younger generation of Stars, Metric, Little Dragon. Or as Bicycle Records puts it:
Jessie Hill supplies the words and melodies, framed by the electronic alchemy of Kathy Cote. Whether you call it folktronic or electro-folk-hop, the psychic link between these two neighbors is clearly heard in this organically-grown bedroom pop.
I love the idea of bedroom pop. What's garage band revival anyway? We all know the best tunes come from the heart and soul of the house. Lucky for us Northwesterns, we seem to have caught the lovebug for The NN right away. Maybe it's because East-Coasters don't have the advantage of attending badass showcase performances like the one @ the U-District Barnes and Noble this Thursday, November 20 @ 8 pm. I encourage all long-term or spanking new fans to attend the performance which will dent your wallet all of ZERO dollars.
