I just can't get over how amazing the new Coldplay is: I'm officially obsessed. Crazy color-coded summer camp outfit obsessed. I can't wait for Viva La Vida...Or Death and All His Friends... But while I anxiously pass the time until the June 18th release date, I'm rocking out to the Monday Mixtape in time.

Monday is All About Me

You don't hear too much praise for Mondays. It's not usually our favorite day ending in 'Y'. Why (y) I ask? It's because we get this great two days of vacation - sort of like a preview of what life might be like if we were a lottery winner or Paris Hilton. There's booze and boys and a whole lot of sitting on our asses in between. Then suddenly the two days are over and unlike Paris we have to recover from our hangover, show some self-respect and dignity, get up and go to WORK. (No, a reality show doesn't count P Hil.) Mondays are usually universal back to reality days and no one likes to be waken from the same beautiful dream we've all had since we were ten. To grow up and do nothing. Don't lie - you've thought about it.

But Mondays have some amazing things about them too. At Starbucks, Mondays are like Christmas. Tip distribution is on the menu - cold hard cash you can put in your pocket by the end of the day. For me this means new music Mondays. I can't hold onto my tips for more than a few hours before I'm at Easy Street finding another excuse to buy one, two or twelve new CDs. I think I actually surprised the guy working the cash register today with my massive purchase. He must have felt a little embarassed for/impressed by me because he threw me an extra punch or two on my free CD punch card to even the score. Shwack. I finally picked up a copy of MGMT's Oracular Spectacular, Jaymay's debut, Adam Green's (of The Moldy Peaches) Sixes and Sevens, The Blakes self-titled release, the much-buzzed about Sera Cahoone, and Sam Cooke's greatest hits (for $7)! Steal.

Did Steve Tell You That Perchance?

Why are people so flippin unfriendly during finals week? I understand the lack of sleep combined with hours of cramming can lead to a sour demeanor, but this is the beauty of college life on a daily basis. Some people must be over abusing their bitch pills or something - you know the ones you take when you need a creepy guy to leave you alone - cause the animosity on campus is more than I can handle. At least when I'm being mean I do so for a purpose; to make someone cry or lower their self-esteem so much said individual requires extensive therapy. I guess the reward of a mediocre score on a near meaningless test doesn't seem worth the sacrifice of a smile. Quit your bitching people, before I send your ass to a community college graduate who charges 300 bucks per session.

In happier news I have completed all my pre-Christmas shopping for the fam bam! This includes amazing concert tix for my brother (Wu Tang at the Showbox), tv series/dvds for my parents as well as gift certificates to their regular haunts. To finish this early is a monumental feat for LTK - unprecedented in its grandeur. And in honor of this great accomplishment I bought myself a little somethin somethin special: the first season of Flight of the Conchords. Steve told me to Jemaine!

Yay, the advent of ChrismaHannaKwanza has me in a decently cheerful mood! The fake tree in my dorm room is all ablaze with the glory of Target craftmanship and the newest addition to my secular nativity scene is a golden goose with a gimpy leg. Aren't the PC Holidays amazing?! Of course its only right that today on UAFT we honor whatever celebration your family uses as an excuse to give each other gifts. For me, this is the birth of the baby Jesus. Of course, I'm the only member of my family who knows Christianity is not an island in South America. Mischief: A Case of the Mondays Mixtape

I've been feeling especially mischievous this week. Perhaps its the lack of sleep induced by impending finals. Much more likely is the possibility that at heart I'm a blackened criminal; I like Grand Theft Auto too much. If it weren't for communal shower time, and the inevitable presence of one or two "Big Bertha" types, my alter-ego would have me in prison right now. For committing some kind of elaborate heist I think - black market art or something sexy like that. I could never be a violent offender see, I have enough trouble wielding my gun on Halo 2. And the only confrontation I like is between Peanut Butter and Jelly on my lunchtime sandwich.

Mischief has slapped me in the face this week harder than that guy from Real World Seattle. And I'm not complaining. Its been a tremendously helpful form of procrastination. I've been getting tired of plain old complacency and indifference to my schoolwork - now at least I can stir up a little trouble in the process. Small time of course; PG-13 pranks. I told you I wasn't dying to go to prison - I'd have to take up smoking just so I could fit in with the right gang. And we all know prison tattoos would look bad with my complexion. To tide me over until i can get to those Class A Felonies, heres the mischief-inspired COTM mixtape.

In other news, I spent an impressive 2 hours searching for a classical song yesterday - after hearing it used as background music in the trailer for the 2008 US remake of the critically-acclaimed Austrian thriller "Funny Games," directed by the legendary Michael Haneke. Although I have yet to see the original, I am SO excited for the frame-for-frame remake of the 1997 hit. The synopsis explains, "a vacationing family gets an unexpected visit from two deeply disturbed young men. Their idyllic holiday turns nightmarish as they are subjected to unimaginable terrors and struggle to stay alive." The film is a take on the dangers of stylized violence portrayed in the media. Writer/Directer Haneke hopes to shock and disturb by presenting the audience as an accomplice the to senseless acts of violence committed by the movie's villains. The main characters even speak directly to the camera at certain points in the movie, winking at us, and are able to manipulate events by "rewinding" one sequence. I encourage everyone to see this one when it hits next year. Its got all the art house appeal with the mainstream add-in: pretty people! Lydia is in love with Michael Pitt so you can count on her to be hiding out in the theater like the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

In terms of concert news, The Glass House here in Pomona has finally announced that Pinback is coming!! For Lydia, who falls asleep with her copy of Summer In Abaddon under her pillow still, this is better than the invention of Reese's peanut butter cups and birth control rolled into one. Hopefully you losers won't force me to go by myself - in that case I'll have to get smashed and make inappropriate advances on all men within a two block radius. Which I guess isn't such a bad thing after all; booze, boys, and badass music. What more could a girl want?
